You Are Not You.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Ending a relationship is never simple, but we can learn from both the good and bad times to grow. Our life’s journey is about finding people who uplift us and stick with us through thick and thin. The hardest part isn't just finding your rock; it's holding onto them when times get hard. That's the beauty of shared history. Will he stay or leave ?

This is … YOU ARE NOT YOU

Some of us have felt deep pain and hardship — a life filled with high highs and low lows. ‘You Are Not You’ follows a woman through her most beautiful and not-so-beautiful moments.

In this story I wanted to showcase a relationship that gets blindsided : one person leaves during the most challenging time of the other’s life.

Longing ●◦ Memories ●◦ Struggles ●◦ Grief ●◦ Acceptance

With struggle comes the opportunity to transform into a new ‘You’. The audio portion are saved voicemails Mark has kept over the years of his relationship with Sarah.

We wonder : where did things go wrong ?

Reflecting and learning from these difficult experiences is essential. Perhaps even more valuable. Learn from the past, and move on …

Finding a new ‘You’ takes great courage and strength.

This project came together relatively fast, even though the idea took quite a few years to develop.

Edith shared a personal story / concept, and I had long thought about how to visually express her sentiment. I'm incredibly grateful to work with Jebediah Shorten on this series. The audio features real voicemails between Mark and Sarah, highlighting their 5-year relationship. They will remain anonymous.
